On Rosh Hashanah it is written, and on Yom Kippur it is sealed, who will live and who will die….but Teshuvah (returning, turning, repentance); Tefillah (prayer) and Tzedakah (Righteous Deeds) can transform (ma’arivrin) the evil of the decree.
